Tesla Solar | Tesla: Here is the information to order your roof from Tesla (that has now merged with SolarCity). The tempered glass tiles are much stronger, much cheaper and last long (lifetime of the house or infinity warranty, whichever comes first). Oh, and then there’s the PV electricity generation, above that. It is 30-years warranty on the PV, it seems. This is something that is called an “irrefusable” value proposition. Especially if the house…
Solar and wind just passed another big turning point: So solar and wind power generation is reaching a threshold where renewable energy is cheaper than fossil fuel-based power in Germany and UK. That is before counting the subsidies for renewables, and ignoring the massive externality costs of our historically favorite dirty black fuel. Note the discussion of the virtuous cycle of renewable fuels. As base load power moves up from 5% renewables the costs of traditional power…
Repost from IPzine… BioLite BaseCamp Stove | Turn Fire into Electricity by BioLite — Kickstarter: I love it. But only 62 hours to get in on the KickStarter offer. They are at twice goal with $800k+ and 3,000 backers. Yes, it was DARK in Miami, when Hurricane Andrew came through South Miami/Homestead on August 24, 1992. Well, afterwards really. It would be weeks before most of us would get power. So bar-b-q grilling was the…
Nice Bloomberg article here. Renewable of Wind and Solar are now cheaper than coal, oil, gas, nuclear. No big need for subsidies to make them competitive. But, there’s also no need, quite the contrary given the externality costs, for subsidizing fossil fuels! Nice article with great graphics show the fall in price for wind and solar.
Sustainable Universities falls into to two schools (note the pun). 1) Those that have greener campuses in terms of reduced usage of resources and renewable resources. 2) Those that teach sustainability programs academically. Of course, doing both is entirely possible… and even highly synergistic. Climate Leadership | Climate Leadership Plan | Alberta.ca: WOW. On the eve of the humongous climate meetings in Paris next week (week after Thanksgiving in USA), Canada has stepped up to the plate on addressing climate changes. Alberta is the home of Coal and Oil Sands: two of the great game changers in addressing pollution in general and Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG). There are several reports, but one is to simply charge a tax per…
